Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there. I didn't plan on posting a Saturday Sweets this week and then I remembered that I have pictures of the two cakes I made for my mom and mother-in-law a few years ago. I thought it was a fun and unique gift:)
I gave this cake to my mom. If I remember right, this was a lemon cake with cream cheese filling....my favorite! All of the flowers and butterflies are made with fondant and I used fondant letter cutters for the lettering.
I gave my mother-in-law the square cake. I think this was a white cake with strawberry filling. I made all of the butterflies and flowers ahead of time and let them harden so they were 3-D.
I made these cakes after 3 months of classes at Michaels Craft. Each course is once per week for one month. I think I have mentioned before that you can just take one month of classes (1 course) and you will learn how to make and smooth the buttercream and do basic decorating. Working with fondant is just like playing with Play Doh. It's a matter of having the right cutters and looking for ideas online. Anyone can do it and it's a fun hobby. Try it!
Have a great rest of the weekend:)
