I don't own many Sinful Colors nail polishes; but the few I have, I really like. I received Winterberry from Amy at Polish and Such. I won her giveaway and had most of the colors she was giving away, so she was kind enough to change up the prizes a bit and she threw in some surprises - this was one of them (Thank you so much Amy!). It was perfect because I love purple and this shade is very unique to my collection. I don't have any dark dusty purples like this.
The formula was great and opaque in two coats. You can find Sinful Colors at Target and Walgreens and they are so affordable. It's a great way to try out colors that you aren't too sure about.
Warning: Cheesy Pep Talk
I was reluctant to post these photos because I wasn't completely happy with them. But after some kind words and support from some awesome women in a Facebook group, I decided to quit being so hard on myself and try to remember why I started blogging in the first place. It wasn't to please everyone else and worry about what they were thinking (which girls/women often do)...I did it because I have a passion for colors and polish and I want to share this passion and inspire others. It has been such a fun hobby for me and I have met so many great friends through this experience. I don't want this to turn into something that makes me feel self conscious and brings me down. It's not very common to have other women support each other in our daily lives; but for some reason, nail polish brings us together and brings out the best in us. The support I have received and have given in this community is so powerful and has been life changing. Let's remember that we are all human and have flaws. No one is perfect, so we shouldn't expect perfection. Let's give ourselves a break and be proud of the things we do and who we are. Are you with me??
Thanks everyone who reminded me what blogging is all about:)

Thank you for these words, Essie!!! I totally agree with you, sometimes it seems like women out there just want to compete... And if you're not perfect in every way you will never succeed... I come here not only for your awesome manis, but primarily because I like what you represent and because you're such a cool chickie!!! I really hope you never stop blogging!!
ReplyDeleteBtw, and this may sound lame, but I often catch myself thinking during the week: ' I wonder what kind of cake Essie will come up with this Saturday'!! So see, you can never stop blogging!! :))
Thank you so much. You are one of those friends I referred to in my post and I really appreciate your kindness. Oh and I need to start making cakes again...the ones I post have been made between 2009 (when I started) and up to about a year ago. I haven't made many lately (only my daughters' birthday cakes) because of how stressed out I would get trying to make them perfect. That is why I am so worried about this blog....I tend to run from things when I don't feel like I am good enough. I don't want to run away from this and I want to start decorating cakes again. Maybe I'll make one this weekend??? hmmmm.
DeleteP.s. love the polish too!! So awesome for fall!! :))
ReplyDelete:) Thanks.
DeleteThis is such an amazing post - I have to remind myself of that too. Purpose for blogging is much more then a "perfect" photo. I love this post and I LOVE that polish and need to get it for myself. So pretty and thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to know that I am not the only one that feels this way. So maybe I'm "normal"!? Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteYay!! I'm just so glad you didn't just post your hand and nails inside your sleeve! xD
ReplyDelete:) I need to do that one of these times...just for you:)
DeleteGlad to see you finding your mojo again! :) <3
ReplyDelete:) Thanks!
DeleteI totally agree we weren't born to be perfect, we were born to learn and that involves making mistakes.

Well said.
DeleteLooks great Essie! Proud of you for posting!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your support.
DeleteYou go, girl! First of all, that polish is beautiful, and second of all, DO WHAT YOU LOVE! We in the "world of polish" support you and love you! No one expects perfection. For some reason, we only expect perfection from ourselves! I struggle so much with this, but it is so freeing when you really embrace the fact that you're not perfect and you love yourself with your flaws! Keep up the great blogging! :) Love and hugs!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much - you are very right.
DeleteIf I could make a heart on my phone, I totally would have led with that :) You're thinking about making cakes again?? That's AWESOME!! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yes, I need to step outside my comfort zone and learn that good enough is good enough:)
DeleteThanks so much for this post! I sometimes worry about my photo and/or cleanup skills, but I truly do enjoy blogging, and love showing off all the gorgeous indie polishes on my blog. Even if my nails and pictures aren't perfect :) It may be a cheesy pep talk, but sometimes that's what's needed. <3
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. Isn't it nice to know we aren't alone?
DeleteGreat choice! I love this polish. I cleaned out my stash today and found this one, I can't believe I haven't worn it yet! I've moved it to my "to use soon" bag. I think your pics look great, as usual. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat, I bet you'll really like it. Thanks for the compliment.
DeleteI love the polish and the cheesy pep talk :) Your photos are beautiful, too. We are always the hardest on ourselves. Thanks for posting this! Keep up the great work :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.
DeleteGreat mani and a great (and much needed) pep talk!
ReplyDelete:) Glad to hear it helped someone.
DeleteI'm glad you changed your mind and decided to post these photos! Blog for you, not for us :)
ReplyDeleteI need to remember that. Thanks!
DeleteI really like this post. And I am a big fan of your Blog anyhow. While I appreciate the professional presentation by some Bloggers out there I am a "normal" polish user and while macro shots of glitters, etc. look awesome, I am eager to see what a polish would look like in every day life and this is exactly what you are showing us. I do all my photos with my iPhone since I don't own a decent camera not to mention a lightbox. I love writing my Blog, but have to squeeze it inbetween my job, my boyfriend, housekeeping and friends - in short an average busy life. (Hence I still did not manage to understand the google plus function). And I like to know what polish can look like in exactly those normal busy lifes. So a big thank you for sharing your manis with us!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my, thanks so much. See, you are the type of person I am talking about when I say how supportive everyone is. It's hard to balance everything, that's for sure. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
DeleteEhem just saw that I listed my job before my boyfriend, that is not reflectimg the true ranking ;-)
ReplyDeleteLOL...of course:)
DeleteAwesome post, no one is perfect and blogging is about learning and sharing! Love your nails!
ReplyDeleteThank you:)
DeleteFirst off, you are welcome for the polish! It looks amazing on you. In regard to the "cheesy pep talk", I think it is great that you spoke of this. I often have similar thoughts. I worry about how my cuticles might look or that I didn't clean up well or that the photographs aren't what I want them to be, etc., etc. But you are right, we have to think about the reason we blog. I think sometimes it is hard not to compare. I see so much awesome nail art and I could never stack up to what some of the people do. I dabble in it here and there but I just like swatching polishes that I love and that's mainly what I do. Thanks for the pep talk. You are right, this community is amazing and it really does bring many of us together. There are so many inspiring and amazing woman and I'm happy to call many of them my friends! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree. I'm glad there are others who feel the same way. Thanks for being there for me - you are a great friend:)
DeleteEssie, I'm always happy to see a post from you in my Google Reader! xoxo
ReplyDeleteBTW, Winterberry is very pretty. I'll look for it in my Walgreens soon!
Ah, thanks so much.
DeleteI Think these photo's are beautiful! I also have to agree on how different of a color this is. When I bought it I had none like it in my collection.
ReplyDeleteWhen I had time to keep posting, I would often wonder if my photo's were good enough. Then I said "What the hell, polish makes me happy, and I will do what I love"
Keep posting! :)
Good thinking:)
