Welcome back to Saturday Sweets.
This week's cake (Shelby's 2nd Birthday) is a cake that I made within a month of taking my first class. I probably had about 2 nights of classes under my belt. As you can see, I used my "star tip" which is the basic tip you learn to use in your first session:) LOTS of STARS. My hands were pretty sore after this one. But it was fun.
I used Pyrex bowls to bake the cakes into these dome shapes. I covered them with a thin layer of frosting, and then started with the stars. Although most of the other cakes I have shown use fondant for accents, I actually enjoy decorating with buttercream more. The problem is, you can't do as much with buttercream as you can with fondant.
I used chocolate, white, and marble for the sections of the caterpillar.
If you are new to my blog, feel free to check out the rest of my cakes by clicking the "cakes" link on my right side bar. I know this is technically a nail polish blog, but I like to show my other hobby once a week (Saturday Sweets).
Hope you are having a great weekend so far.

This cake is freaking adorable. I pinned it!
