Happy Saturday Everyone! Today I am sharing a cake I made for my friend's surprise 30th birthday party. Her husband called me and said I could make whatever I wanted...exactly what I like - no pressure or expectations:)
This was a white cake with raspberry mousse filling and buttercream frosting. The fringes are buttercream and the zebra print and daisies are fondant.
It was fun being able to bring this gift to my friend's party. It's a unique gift that people really appreciate because of the time and thought. It's very rewarding. This friend (Jen) ended up taking cake classes soon after I made this cake for her and started making cakes as well. It was actually catching like wildfire. Lots of my friends and people at work started taking cake classes. I ended up getting a referral gift card from the instructor at Michaels for all of the referrals:) If you have ever thought it would be fun to make cakes - just try a class at Michaels and see what you think. They have 4 courses (well they did in 2009) and each course is a month long (classes are one night a week). You will learn enough to make some pretty cool cakes after the first course. The trickiest part is getting the buttercream smooth - once you get that down, you are good to go. Let me know if you have questions about the classes or need any tips. I love to talk cakes almost as much as nail polish:)
The design for this cake was inspired by "23smiles" on CakeCentral.
Well I'm off for a shopping day by myself today! Mommy/Wifey's Day Off....I can't wait:) Have a nice Saturday.
